Our Story
HISTORY
ONE TRUCK, ONE VETERINARIAN
2006
Dr. Chad Hewlett, who has been in practice for over 25 years, founded Energy Equine in 2006 with the specific goal of treating performance horses. At the time, Dr. Hewlett operated an ambulatory-focused practice out of O'Brays Equine Services in Carstairs, Alberta. Fifteen years later, and a few truck changes since the one-man-show days, Dr. Hewlett is still in practice but Energy Equine has grown exponentially and become a recognized and trusted brand for the performance horse.
AIRDRIE CLINIC OPENS
2016
Energy Equine moved into a brand new, 5200 sq ft, custom designed facility just north of Airdrie, Alberta. Shifting our focus from strictly ambulatory to facility-based has provided us immense growth. As a team we discovered that our facilities provide a new level of customer service and comfort for our clients. These same facilities provide our veterinarians the ability to diagnose problems quicker, and reach new levels of veterinary medicine so that we can get our athletes back to peak performance faster.

VETERINARY TEAM EXPANDS
2018-2019
We were fortunate to hire and develop both Dr. Travis Kelter and Dr. Becky Tees . Dr. Kelter has been with Energy Equine since he was a student, is currently undergoing IVCA certification in equine chiropractics and has professional interests in lameness, digestive health and a whole-horse approach to wellness. Dr. Tees came to our team after a one-year internship in surgery and has professional interests in lameness, surgery and diagnostic imaging.
MORE HEADS ARE BETTER THAN ONE
2020
In 2020 we welcomed Dr. Andrea Smith. Dr. Smith started with us as a summer assistant over five years ago before embarking on her DVM, and we are excited for her future with our team as our first “home-grown”.
SECOND LOCATION OPENS!
2020
Our second location, Synergy Equine opened. Our Dewinton, AB locations currently houses a 2500 sq. ft. clinic and 50’x100’ tarp structure for our veterinarians to work out of. Synergy Equine has two exam rooms, a recovery stall, five outside stalls, a round-pen and small reception and inventory area that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Similar to our north facility, our doors are wide open and welcoming to clients old and new.
